Comparative Organisation and Labour StudiesĀ 

The way that work is organised varies greatly around the world. Major and ongoing differences in work practices continue to occur between regions. The Master's programme in Comparative Organisation and Labour Studies takes a comparative approach to studying these differences. It covers economic, legal, psychological and sociological conceptions of employment relations between employers and employees, the organisation of work processes and the position of labour in the wider society. The programme also looks at the process of European integration and addresses issues of European economic and social policy-making and convergence in employment relations between countries

Comparative Organisation and Labour Studies at the University of Amsterdam

This Master's programme is offered by the Graduate School of Social Sciences in close cooperation with the Amsterdam Institute for Labour Studies (AIAS). It combines the international, intellectually stimulating learning environment of the GSSS, where students from over 60 countries come to study, with the renowned expertise of the AIAS in the interdisciplinary fields of economy, sociology, law, psychology and occupational health. The cosmopolitan and multicultural city of Amsterdam contributes greatly to the unique and stimulating setting of this Master's programme.

Accredition and degree

Students of the Master's programme in Comparative Organisation and Labour Studies receive a Master's degree in Sociology (Sociologie). The quality of this Master's degree has been accredited by the Accreditation Organisation of The Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). This means that upon successful completion of the Master's programme in Comparative Organisation and Labour Studies students will receive a legally recognised Master of Science (MSc) degree.
