Undergraduate programmes

Graduate School of Social Sciences

The Graduate School of Social Sciences offers the following English taught undergraduate programmes for exchange students as well as independent fee paying students.

Undergraduate Certificate Programme in Humanities and Social Sciences

The Undergraduate Certificate Programme in Humanities and Social Sciences provides challenging and stimulating courses in the humanities and social sciences and aims to increase students' understanding of social, political, and cultural realities in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Europe and around the world. The classes are comprised of many different nationalities therefore they offer a wide range of perspectives. This diversity enables students to analyze and discuss issues from multiple viewpoints and enhances the students' ability to critically think and write.

By registering for the Undergraduate Certificate Programme at the University of Amsterdam students choose for studying at one of Europe's leading research universities which belongs to the League of European Research Universities and maintains intensive contact with universities all over the world.

Studying at the University of Amsterdam not only means choosing for one of the most prestigious universities of Europe but also stands for studying in one of the most vibrant, cosmopolitan and colourful cities of Europe.

This programme is offered by the Graduate School of Social Sciences, of which the International School for Humanities and Social Sciences has become part since January 2009.

Undergraduate Certificate Programme in Law, Culture and Society

The Law, Culture and Society Programme is a unique possibility for students interested in law in general, or in attending law school in particular, to learn more about law and the legal profession in an international and intercultural setting.

The exclusivity of the programme stems not only from its focus on comparative and international law; it also draws from its setting at the Universiteit van Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

This one-semester programme on law, culture and society, offers students the possibility to gain a certificate issued by the Universiteit van Amsterdam.

The programme is offered by the University of Amsterdam's Graduate School of Social Sciences (of which the International School for Humanities and Social Sciences is now part), in collaboration with the Chicago-based Institute for the International Education of Students (IES Abroad).
